WHO ARE WE
In the beginning, there was a group of like-minded individuals who loved the wines from the South West of France and wanted to share this passion with others. They came up with an idea to do something that had never been done before, they would create a quality négociant company offering a selection of wines from throughout the South West of France, as Burgundy and the Rhône had long been doing in their respective regions... With Lionel as the driving force, "Lionel Osmin et Cie" was therefore created to offer wine drinkers the chance to discover the region's unique grape varieties and terroirs. With wines from the Jurançon, Cahors, Gaillac, Bergerac and Marcillac AOCs, Lionel Osmin et Cie has become the only wine company to offer all of the wines from the lesser-known yet high-quality wine regions of the South West of France under one umbrella. The result is a range of wines with a character that is typical of our region that has been put together to allow wine drinkers to explore the diversity of the grape varieties and AOCs that we love so much. Discovery, originality and above all conviviality would be the best descriptors for these wines from the South West of France created for your drinking pleasure!

Produce better, aim for zero residues
With our agricultural and agronomic training, we have always sought to produce the healthiest wines possible and minimise our impact on the environment. For our Atlantic vineyards, which tend to receive more rainfall than other regions in France or elsewhere, we consider organic growing to be only a partial solution due to the significant increase in the number of copper treatments required compared to the sustainable growing methods we currently use. Instead, our objective is to reduce the use of phytosanitary products without the consequent increase in the use of a tractor and any leaching of the Bordeaux Mixture into the soil having too much of a negative impact. We therefore created a R&D role in 2018 to help us achieve "zero residues" in both our wines AND our soils.
The project consists of studying and developing tools to support our winegrower partners in their transition. It is an ambitious project carried out with agronomic realism and efficiency, steering clear of simplistic ideologies, opportunistic shortcuts and commercial dictates, allowing us to focus on preserving the health of our vineyards, our soils, our consumers and our winegrower partners as well as that of the generations to come.
Protect the environment:
1 tree planted for every 12 bottles of AOP wine
In 2010, we launched an ambitious tree-planting scheme, first with the Planète Urgence NGO and then with the ONF (French national forestry board). This initiative has enabled us to contribute to the reforestation of the Landes forest following the devastating storms at the end of the last century and to restore balance to the wind and storm corridors. By the end of 2018, nearly 43,000 trees had been replanted, the equivalent of more than 40 hectares of reforested land!
Create and share value
Lionel Osmin et Cie’s initial focus was on promoting the grape varieties and terroirs from the South West of France. What then could be more natural than paying more for the grapes in order to create the finest wine blends? This also ensures that our winegrowers benefit from our work and have the means to work better and invest in the future. As we believe that everything that we do should have a positive impact, since 2010, we have been working with mainly local suppliers to safeguard local employment and reduce the carbon footprint associated with our purchases and travel. Whether they are graphic designers, printers, consultants, service providers, pottery manufacturers, weavers or truffle growers, the majority of them live and work in the local area.
Help those in need
Helping those in need is a matter of course for us and is ingrained in everything we do. Since 2014, we have been supporting the fantastic team of volunteers at the Life Is Rose association, which was founded to combat the social precarity that can be engendered by cancer. In just a few months, it successfully launched "Assurose", the first loan insurance scheme for women who have had breast cancer, sparing them further suffering! The team is working to ensure that all cancer patients, their children and relatives, remain an integral part of society and enjoy the same rights as any other citizen, i.e., the right to get a loan, insurance, a job, etc.
Since 2018, we have also been supporting the Food Bank to help those who are less fortunate.
Sponsor cultural events
Since 2016, Lionel Osmin et Cie has been a member of the Concert'O club, a club for the patrons of the Orchestre Pau Pays de Béarn, whose brilliant conductor, Fayçal Karoui, is the man behind El Camino, a fantastic musical adventure helping children from deprived neighbourhoods in our local area. Cultivating culture as well as cultivating the vines!
